Judges’ Roles and Responsibilities
The NIBS case competition consists of three preliminary rounds (eight matches each), followed by a quarter-final (four matches), semi-final (two matches) and final. In each round, judges must familiarize themselves with a written business case, view a pair of head-to-head presentations, probe the presenters via Q&A, evaluate the analysis and recommended solutions, and provide feedback to the teams.
Teams have up to 20 minutes to deliver their presentation, followed by 10 minutes of Q&A. After viewing both presentations, the judging panel has 15 minutes to consult and score the teams. Teams are then provided with feedback.
Each judging panel consists of three or more members, and will include representation from each of the following groups:
- Business academic
- Senior manager or entrepreneur
- Case competition alumnus/alumna
Judges are expected to have expertise in the following:
- Identification / assessment of the main issues in the case;
- Distinguishing symptoms from underlying problems;
- Assessing the relevance and effectiveness of recommendations;
- Assessing the feasibility of implementation plans (planning, organization, costs, etc.);
- Asking good questions after the presentations;
- Providing insightful oral and/or written feedback.
Judging opportunities are available throughout the week (see below). To leverage your experience and ensure consistent standards of evaluation, we encourage you to consider judging multiple rounds of the competition. Even if you can only judge during one time slot, we welcome your participation.
*Please note that all times are tentative and subject to change. Please continue to check the website for updated information as we get closer to the date of competition.*
